Dubai For the erudite, the prosperity of a nation is always measured in its cultural advancement, and the fifth edition of Art Dubai aims to showcase just that.
Art Dubai has become the cynosure of the art world and become the talking point everywhere. With the fifth edition just around the corner, curators, gallery owners, collectors, artists and art-lovers are engaged in frenetic preparations for the four-day annual fair that begins from March 16 to 19 at Madinat Jumeirah.
The fifth edition of Art Dubai is teaming up with Bidoun Projects, The Island, The Delfina Foundation, Tashkeel and the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture). Besides, a new management crew of Antonia Carver, Fair Director of Art Dubai, and Sultan Al Qasimi, member of the Consultative Council of Art Dubai.
"We are delighted to collaborate with leading cultural organisations to present a diverse range of projects that affirm the role of Art Dubai as a site of discovery.
"From films to installations to performances, Art Dubai Projects explores the fabric, economy, and theatrical nature of an art fair. These dynamic projects engage visitors of all backgrounds." Antonia Carver said.
Radiant future
"The observable gathering of art in the UAE is an unmistakable sign of a radiant art future in the country, which undoubtedly will reflect its successful outcome to the rest of the Arab world," Al Qasimi said
Multi-national gallery owners will be taking part this year. For instance, Yasmin Attasi, who owns Green Art Gallery, explained to Gulf News their preparation for the fifth edition.
"As a matter of fact, we work all year round for Art Dubai. It is the most important time in our Gallery programme as it attracts some of the most important museums, curators and collectors from the art world who are interested in the region's contemporary art," she said.
"And we take this yearly opportunity to present our artists in the best possible manner. This year we will be showcasing a New York-based artist Kamrooz Aram.
"We also connect with curators and museums who are interested in collaborating and showcasing our artists in their exhibitions.
"Art Dubai has expanded our business and made us known internationally. For instance, we went to Miami a few weeks ago and joined in our first US art fair and the feedback was incredible. All because of Art Dubai's impact," Yasmin said.
Al Anoud Al Warshow, owner of Hunar Gallery said: "Art Dubai is a platform playing a great cultural role in the Middle East and succeeded to get the global attention. Hunar Gallery is the first Emirati art gallery sheds light on the local talents and presents them to the international artistic community.
"What I admire about the fifth edition is the fantastic collaboration with Abu Dhabi Culture and Mathaf in Qatar.
"The four-day event allows us to interact with art-world people from every corner of the globe. And the size of the visitors shows how much people here cherish art."
